CHRISTINE

I grew up in Dowagiac, the daughter of Potawatomi parents. As a child, our culture and traditions were all around me. I learned the art of black ash basket weaving from my mother and aunt, and am now an expert weaver. It is important that our traditions like basket making and quilling get passed down to future generations. Because of this, I teach. I teach weaving and I also teach language classes to Pokagon Band members and to staff. I also provide guidance on two Tribal committees. All that I do is because of my desire to remain connected to my fellow Tribal citizens, and to my heritage.

I am Christine and I am Potawatomi.
