Growing up in Hartford, Michigan, I’ve always been close to the Potawatomi culture. My grandfather taught me the ways of our people and instilled in me that we are strong as long as we stay together. He and our elders fought hard for our tribe to be recognized. I honor their work by passing their knowledge down to my son, taking classes and learning the native language my grandfather spoke so well. I want to work in the casino business as a way to provide for my family, as well as be of service to others. My mother, grandfather and son are the reasons I’m proud to be recognized for our heritage.
